Look at me, I actually showed up on time for Norm’s Thursday Doors event! Feeling pretty frisky this morning with the crisp, fall air making a brief appearance in Earlysville so I decided to enjoy this exceptional morning with coffee and thoughts on the back porch. Today is good…
These fotos are my final installment from our Korčula day trip and contain a few of my favorites. How is it a one-dimensional foto can evoke a three-dimensional memory? As I sift through these final moments of our splendid adventure I remember how much fun we girls had simply because we listened to a few people who’d been there before and read a travel book about this must see Dalmatian island. Who is it that said,
“Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.”
Each time I visit someplace new I am reminded how small our world is and I am just a small piece of the puzzle. I am enchanted with the mundane and great aspects of another’s way of everyday living. I make note of their roads and if they twist and turn through cities or countryside – are they cobbled, brick, or limestone like most of the paths I walked in Croatia. I visit local museums and notice how extravagantly or modestly they tell the stories of their past. I cannot help but marvel over the architecture pointing out the similarities and differences compared to my surroundings back home. Overwhelmingly, I detect how alike all our doors are, near and far. They speak the same language, telling me, “Come closer and see what lies beyond.”

This week we are hosted by Manja who is sitting in for Norm. Visit her blogging home to see what she and the other door lovers are sharing from their excursions or very own neighborhoods. You may just get the urge to travel. Until next time…
The doors are all very interesting, but it’s the wall with all the picture frames that most intrigues me!

I’ve never seen a modern slant window in a door like that – eye catching. 🙂

Wonderful, eclectic collection! I had never thought of it before, but it’s kind of amazing how universal door design is. Fabulous variety in execution, but same basic design. Huh.

And there is one way in and one way out. Unless we talk revolving doors!

But, you know, I thought it over again, and Japanese sliding doors are different. So not entirely universal. Interesting. Wonder if Norm would want to write a book on the history and styles of doors?

Ewwwww, I like this idea! Norm, are you listening?

And yes, Japanese sliding doors are different. So we have revolving doors, sliding doors, GARAGE doors. What else? Elevator doors?

Not familiar with these.

Dutch doors are those two-parters, where you can open the top half and leave the bottom half closed. Makes it easy to talk to somebody outside without the cat (or the children) getting out.

Yes, do know them….

These are wonderful doors. I like the worn wooden ones the best, but the one with the angled window is pretty sharp looking. Great collection!

Thank you Dan. That modern door did stand out from the rest, I agree! Not my cup of tea but still a lovely door and a must for this post.

I’ve gone on several of your Thursday Doors posts and I must say you leave my small contributions in the dust … some of these are just exquisite … beyond exquisite. I am so glad I am tagging along on this journey. I know my contributions will be few and far between unless I dig into my old travel photos from years back, but I likely didn’t focus on doors, unless an unusual one on a historical building caught my eye. Just beautiful and I like how you captioned and presented all of these doors as well.

You’re so welcome – I need to up my game to participate in any more doors posts. Those doors you featured are incredible … we are sorely lacking in creativity here in the U.S. and I’ve told Janis that after viewing her Mexican doors.

Ahh, thank you for the invitation to my blogging home, Denny. 🙂 It’s a lovely expression and it’s just what it is.
I was so happy to follow you on your adventures so close to me, in my former territory, feeling the sea of my childhood and seeing the views I know. This is a beautiful door collection but there is more. I love the fortress, and the pictures, and the “Come closer” door. Such a beauty!
You are right: whether you go around or not defines who you are. So let’s go! And the ‘č’ is perfect now! 🙂
